Water

In the sports and leisure sector, water quality is of the utmost importance. Preventing drinking water installations from being contaminated with legionella is a top priority. The legionella bacteria is found in groundwater, surface water and drinking water. If legionella enters the air via water spray, it can cause health risks. In the context of Dutch legislation (‘Drinkwaterbesluit’), so-called priority institutions (hotels, healthcare organizations, swimming pools, etc.) must therefore take measures for legionella prevention.

In the context of legionella prevention, a priority institution must, among other things, have a risk analysis carried out and a management plan drawn up (in accordance with BRL 6010). The owner or manager of a priority institution must have a legionella test and legionella analysis carried out at least every six months. The legionella samples must be examined in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory. You can find more information about legionella on our legionella theme page (in Dutch).
