The energy transition is also a hot topic in the automotive sector. Kiwa is actively involved in alternative energy solutions for the mobility sector. The emphasis is on hydrogen. For example, we have an advanced hydrogen test lab, one of the few worldwide. Manufacturers of components for hydrogen-powered like fuel tanks and fittings can come here for testing and certification.

Testing according to UN ECE R 134

Kiwa Nederland serves with its state of the art laboratory in Apeldoorn the automotive market when it comes to cylinder testing according to the R 134. All hydraulical and permeation tests are done and reported under ISO 17025 accreditation in our lab in Apeldoorn (NL). For the bonfire testing we use an external lab while we have ET within the Kiwa Group to outsource pneumatical tests.
Besides the testing we serve as technical service for the R 134 for the RDW (NL), KBA (GE) and STA (Sweden). Next to that Kiwa has a Notified Body within the group to certify the cylinders based on the accredited test reports of Kiwa Nederland.

Testing of components

In the Apeldoorn laboratory of Kiwa we offer the testing of high pressure components for use in automotive or Hydrogen Refueling Stations. Think in this respect of valves, regulators, receptacles, nozzles, hoses, etc etc.
We have brand new hydrogen laboratory with over 10 test cells for all kind of hydrogen flow tests at pressure >1,000 bar and temperature ranging from little below -40 C to over +80 C.
Next to that we offer hydrogen permeation test setups for coupon (disc) tests for liner materials.

Testing of fully wrapped composite cylinders

The complete package for testing fully wrapped composite cylinders is covered by Kiwa Nederland and can be done under ISO 17025 accreditation (both the EN 17339 and the EN 12445).
All hydraulically performed tests and the hydrogen permeation test can be done at our lab in Apeldoorn (NL) while the bonfire testing is outsourced to an external partner laboratory.
